When we talk about wedding everything revolves around the bride. From her accessories to her makeup, in fact, even ‘Miss comes before the Mr.’ and steals the limelight. We often forget that it’s his big day too. But not anymore, our often ignored men are no more behind the race when it comes to their wedding.

Gone are the days when the groom’s outfit was restricted to the basic whites and greys. Nowadays they are more open to experiments and won’t settle for anything less than spectacular. The wedstreetstyle team had gone into a candid chat with Ace Designer Sarab Khanijou about the latest trends for our grooms-to-be.

Q.1 What are the latest trends trending for Men's to adorn in their wedding?

I see a fair number of men nowadays experimenting with fashion and actually being very conscious of their ensemble when attending somebody's wedding or even for their own for that matter. While in essence, the traditional and classic Indian couture silhouettes of the sherwani and bandhgala are popular choices for the main wedding event/occasion, there is an increasing trend of opting for some contemporary accessories, varied cuts or even colours like ivory, pastels, navy's for this type of ensemble. A majority of men are also colour co-ordinating with their significant other's outfit colour tones. The latest trend for men when dressing up for weddings is to go for some colour, surface texturing and subtle embellishment and tone on tone embroidery. Also, western and Indo-western outfits are very much in trend and popular at the moment for most wedding functions like a cocktails, pre-wedding function, or a sangeet ceremony. Longer asymmetrical silhouette waistcoats are very 'in' at the moment as well as contemporary designs and silhouettes for the same-be it a cowl kurta design or draped kurtas, asymmetrical jackets and bandhgala's even paired with either cowl pants, cigarette pants or even jodhpuri trousers. Even quirky digital prints and textured bandhgala's are quite the rage and a refreshing change from the single toned black and blue classics.

Q.2 What are the ways Men can adorn Indo-Western style?

Like I've mentioned, men are already looking at staying very 'with it' even when it comes to dressing for weddings. But, the best way the fashionable man can adorn Indo-Western wear is by going for colours and styles that suit them and to wear them with confidence. One trick to carrying such a look off is by subtle accessories with the ensemble. Try short kurtas with straight pants and a waistcoat or Bandi jacket. Dress it up with a pocket square or even a brooch to add a little sophistication to the look. Or for the slightly more adventurous dresser, try pairing a draped kurta with an open bandhgala jacket and either churdidar pants or even slim fit trousers to stand out from the crowd in style.

Q.3 What is your favourite aspect of Indian fashion?

I love the versatility, uniqueness and rich spectrum of techniques that Indian fashion has and can evolve and adapt to. One can work with traditional aspects like say Zari/Zardosi work on different fabrics, experiment with digital prints treatment on that and have even a casual garment evolve into deep luxury. The fact that any silhouette can be experimented with and it can evolve into a different silhouette and can be dressed up or dressed down as per occasion, but the technique or fabric has a richness of tradition and heritage, is the beauty of Indian fashion.

Q.4 What’s your favourite piece in your men's collection, and why?

I have quite a few favourites and it would seem unfair to pick favourites from one's own designs. But, I would have to say our new Sarab Khanijou Bespoke Westerns Fall 16' Capsule Collection has contemporary prints with edgy zippers-those are some of my current favourites, apart from our classic tuxedo with a contemporary twist, the plaid grey jacket worn by the super stylish Rahul Khanna and our new textured & printed Bandhgala range.

Q.5 Tell us about your latest collection?

Our latest collection is actually a capsule collection channelling the Fall16-Spring17 trends and is heavily reliant on play of fabrics and surface textures with generous surface detailing and embellishments like zippers, leather applique, laser cut techniques, and a whole lot of colour grading and play of hues in our signature prints. The fabrics range from jersey, different types of silks, georgettes, linens, brocade as well as neoprene to continue our play of new age fabrics and designs with traditional Indian fabrics.
