1. Choose Shampoo and Conditioner wisely
Use a shampoo and conditioner that’s made for your hair type. If your hair is dry, choose moisturizing products,if you color your hair, opt for color-safe formulas. Volumizing shampoos tend to leave hair drier, so they’re best for fine hair types that would be weighed down by more moisturizing products.

1. Rinse Hair Properly
This is the most important and crucial step towards washing your hair. Your hair should be thoroughly wet before you add your shampoo. Rinse hair with warm water as they will open the cuticle which is good for removing any dirt or product trapped in the hair .
2. Condition Long hair before Shampoo
People with long hair (beneath the shoulders) should first apply a small amount of conditioner through the ends and then lightly rinse with water. This would prevent the fragile ends from drying and further damage. This process will keep the ends healthy and moistened making it smoother and shiny.
3. Use Shampoo only at the scalp.
The shampoo should be applied only at the scalp, particularly at the nape. In fact the best way to lather up is from roots to ends. The hair closest to the scalp is the youngest and will inevitably be the oiliest, while the end of the hair is the oldest and usually driest, most fragile part of the hair.
4.Don't overuse Shampoo
Never use more shampoo than you need. The amount of shampoo should be about a coin size. For Hair which are thick and very long just double the amount .
5. Be Soft and Gentle
Over Lathering or applying to much force can cause permanent damage to your hair’s cuticle, leading to breakage and frizz. Hair should be washed very delicately with medium pressure. Never use circular motions, which can tangle your hair. Use straight stroking motion and do not wash hair like you wash your clothes!
6. Don't Shampoo twice
Unless your hair is extremely dirty and the first shampoo didn’t wash it properly ; there’s no need to wash your hair twice. Shampooing hair once is usually sufficient.
7. Don't Condition Scalp.
After rinsing hair with shampoo, squeeze out excess water before applying a conditioner. Don’t put conditioner at the roots of your hair i.e. the scalp as the natural oil from your scalp is more concentrated there.Conditioner should be added from the mid-lengths to the tips. Also longer the conditioner stays on your hair, the better it absorbs.
8. Rinse with Cold water
Cold water will shut the cuticle tight, sealing the outer layer, which will cause it to reflect the most light and give off the most shine.
Lastly how often you wash your hair depends on your hair type, too. If you have oily or fine hair, you may need to shampoo daily. Normal or dry hair should be washed upto three times a week.
