Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is one of the most common and readily available fix for naturally bleaching facial hair and is said to remove dark circles, blemishes and freckles. But Lemon is highly acidic in nature with a pH of 2. Lemon can destroy the enamel on your teeth if u keep sucking onto the lemon, so imagine what can happen to the skin if its applied directly. Applying pure lemon juice directly can cause irritation and burning sensation and sun exposure can caused chemical burns.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is famous for being used as a Natural scrubber for exfoliating the skin . But chemically the pH of Baking soda is far too alkaline to be used on the face. pH balance is incredibly important to the health of your skin, which has a natural pH of roughly 4.5-5, while baking soda has a pH of 9. Frequent Usage of Baking soda can disrupt and damage the skin’s top layer causing significant moisture loss, as well as compromising your skin’s ability to regulate itself.
Toothpaste
Another very common quick fix that does more harm than good is using toothpaste on the skin. Toothpaste is full of ingredients that are drying and irritating, if not outright harmful, to skin. It will dry out a zit, that much is true, but it’ll also zap healthy moisture from the surrounding areas and has the potential to chemically burning the skin, leaving dark scars that you won’t be able to fix with anything you can find in your kitchen.
Sugar
Sugar is also very commonly used component in Beauty fixes as a natural facial scrub . But using sugar can cause more damage than good to the skin. Facial skin is far thinner than the rest of your skin, the texture of the grains are too rough for the fragile skin on your face. They can actually create tiny tears that can damage and prematurely age the skin.
Body Lotion
Body lotion contain more fragrance and less nourishing ingredients than a facial moisturizer as the skin on the rest of your body is thicker and more resilient than the skin on your face. The delicate skin of the face needs to be treated differently and with gentler, better quality ingredients than those typically used in body lotions. Traditional body lotions shouldn’t even be used in a dry-skin emergency, as their ingredients can actually result in even more dryness on the face, as well as clogged pores and potential allergic reactions.
Petroleum Jelly
Petroleum jelly can be helpful for super dry, fragile skin, as well as protecting cuts, but it isn’t a sufficient moisturizer for the facial skin. Skin will feel softer at first, but just as petroleum jelly seals moisture in, but it also seals in dirt and debris and can actually cause dryness over time because it keeps out additional air and moisture. Petroleum jelly does not actually moisturize but rather retains what’s already in your skin, including the bad stuff. So never use petroleum jelly as a replacement for a moisturizer or a body lotion.
